20th Century Take on Shakespeare Comes to Tesoro in Much Ado About Nothing

Tesoro Theatre Arts’ Much Ado About Nothing runs Thursday, Nov. 16-18. Tickets are available for purchase online for $15.

Based on the play by William Shakespeare, Much Ado About Nothing, utilizes romance and scandal, as couple Hero (Addy Engelken) and her groom-to-be, Claudio (Ryan Villar), team up with Don Pedro (Maceo Vadas) and other cast members in a matchmaking scheme. A week before the couple’s wedding, they devise a plan to trick Claduio’s best friend, headstrong Benedick (Deven Grover) and Hero’s cousin, stubborn Beatrice (Lauren Rigby) into falling in love with each other. Meanwhile, Don Pedro’s villainous brother, Don Jon (Mason Ngo) seeks to stop Hero and Claudio from marrying.

While the original version of Much Ado About Nothing takes place in the 16th century during the Italian Wars in Messina, Tesoro put their own modern spin on the production which will instead take place in Catskills Mountain, New York during 1959. All costumes, sets, and makeup designs were carefully altered to fit this new time period.

Filled with many different storylines, Much Ado About Nothing keeps its audience thoroughly entertained as many try to predict the many twists and turns of the plot, and it is a show you don’t want to miss!
