Why You Should Join a Club

Updated: 4 minutes ago

Clubs are an integral part of the Tesoro community, allowing students to collaborate and share interests on top of being a safe space for students to learn and meet like-minded peers. With over 100 clubs created and led by students during the Fall 2024 semester, there is a club for everyone!

From Computer Science Club to Tesoro Ignition Auto Club, from Academic Decathlon to the Titan Tribune, there is a wide variety of student-led clubs that provide other Tesoro students the opportunity to explore hobbies and for some, even attend competitions. There are clubs for different cultural groups. There are clubs for different hobbies. There are service-based clubs, academic-based clubs, tech-based clubs. Underwater basket weaving? There’s probably a club for that too.

These clubs typically meet one or two times a month, conducting all sorts of activities from crafts to discussions. ASB requires meetings and minutes to be submitted by club leadership after every meeting. Club leadership selection, and most procedures, are dictated by the club’s constitution (every club has one). Most clubs do not require much commitment from members, so it is a low-stress way of getting involved at Tesoro.

Did you know that over 83% of Harvard students were the president of at least one high school club? Joining a club today is a great path to leading one in a few years. That being said, leadership is not necessary to show colleges a variety of interests and involvement as that can be accomplished by mere membership. Being in a club at Tesoro is free resume padding.

Joining a club is a one-way ticket to a loving community of like-minded people. The communities are not just a great opportunity for making friends, but they are also a great opportunity to talk about more niche topics that most student’s inner circles might not be interested in.

Clubs allow students to explore their interests and discuss topics with like-minded peers. With experiences and communities for a variety of topics, students will be able to discover their interests all while learning more in the process. If they are discontent with a topic, they can try more, but even the moderate possibility of finding a strong interest from a low-commitment club should alone warrant joining some.

A great club to join is this club, The Titan Tribune. We pride ourselves on giving students a voice and by joining, anyone can use their voice. We enable students to tell the stories they want to, to write about who they want to, and to voice the opinions they want to.

Join a club; it helps your resume, it gives you a community, and it allows you to explore your interests. When you are shopping down the aisles of Club Rush, fill your basket with food you have never tried before. Put anything you find interesting in your basket; most items at the store are cheap. But most importantly, when you get to checkout, know that trying the new double-chunk chocolate cookie might give you a new best friend.
