Tesoro’s Natalia Vasilian has made waves among her Titan community, winning the 2023 Best Actress at the Macy Awards, as well as Performer of the Year at the 2023 Senior Awards. As a senior, she has served four years in choir, with her latest year as the choir president.
Founded in 1969, the Spirit of the Macy’s Awards is a program dedicated to recognizing and celebrating students of musical theater. A group of judges from the Spirit of the Macy’s nominated Vasilian for Best Actress based off of her performance in Tesoro’s spring musical, Freaky Friday. After performing for the judges again, along with nine other actresses, she was awarded Best Actress. As a result, she will be flying to New York in June to compete in the Jimmy Awards, a national competition for highschool musical theater. In this competition she will contend with Actresses from forty-eight different programs in order to win Best Performance by an Actress.
Vasilian’s Performer of the Year Award is another outstanding feat for the young singer. After performing in Tesoro’s choir and drama programs for four years, Vasilian was incredibly grateful to have been nominated for not only Tesoro’s Performer of the Year Award, but also Titan of the year. An inspiration for her peers, Vasilian’s triumphs are a clear message that hard work and dedication really pay off. As put by the talented Titan herself, getting recognized “showed me the value of putting your all into what you love.”
Vasilian’s hard work is definitely paying off as she performed as the lead for Tesoro’s 2022 and 2023 spring musicals, became a semi-finalist of the OC register artist of the year for commercial vocal music, and won an OC cappie for her lead in the 2022 musical Legally Blonde.
Next year, Vasilian will be attending the Thornton School of Music at University of Southern California, where she will be majoring in Music Industry, earning her Bachelor of Science, and continuing to pursue her commercial music career.
“Dreaming big is what gave me the hope of accomplishing all of this,” Vasilian shared. Though she may be graduating, Vasilian has left a large positive impact on her school. A prime example of Tesoro’s strength, honor, and wisdom, the Titan Tribune wishes her luck with her future endeavors!
