Titans Football Winning Big in Bounceback Year

Updated: Nov 1, 2022

The 2022 school year has started, and football season is back! Our Tesoro Titans are back on the field with our Titan Army student section, Pep squad, Marching Band, and parents cheering them on from the sideline. With the season almost over and a promising entry into CIF playoffs, there are plenty of highlights to touch on.

With only two games left of the year, the Titans are going strong at 6-2. Only falling to a strong Vista Murrieta team and La Serna High School, Tesoro has turned it around from the 2021 season. Following their 42-10 blowout win over a previously high powered Capo Valley offense, the Titans head to Mission Viejo High School for a tough game with the fifth in the state ranked Diablos, and the Titans last game of the regular season will be Friday, October 28, at home, against San Clemente High School.

The Titans currently sit at a 6-2 record, an impressive turnaround from the year prior. Selling out games and hyping up the crowd, this team has a deep bench with over twenty seniors and star junior and sophomore players. With over 1000 rushing yards, Junior Travis Wood has rushed his way to the top of the stat books with an average of 141 yards per game for a total of 12 touchdowns. Senior Mason Wolfe leads the team with over 50 receiving yards a game and aix receiving touchdowns this season. Halfway through the season Sophomore Cash O’Bryne stepped up to the starting quarterback role and has shown out with a 95 QB rating (a stat that measures a QB’s overall performance).

On the defensive side of the ball, Owen Burnside is a nightmare for opposing quarterbacks and coaches, with a team-leading five sacks and 12 QB hurries. Dylan Riley is waiting for any balls in the air, with four interceptions including a pick six last week at Capo Valley.

Ranking 61st in the state of California and 35th in the Southern Section, the Tesoro football program has made incredible improvements. Taking a deeper dive into the coaching staff, at the core of the team is Head Coach and Defensive Coordinator Matt Poston. Building up the football program, Coach Poston is a founding member at Tesoro, eventually working his way up to become Head Coach. Also leading the football team, Offensive Coordinator Coach Rob Adams is out on the field working with the QB’s constantly coming up with new ways for our Titans to rack up points on the scoreboard.

Overall, this season has been a huge success for the Tesoro Titan Football Program. With six wins and two losses, this team is looking forward to making CIF playoffs. Also successful on the lower levels, the football program as a whole has been dominating the field. Make sure to come out each Friday to support our team. Go Titans!
