Tesoro's Varsity Pom Brings Home National Hardware

Tesoro’s Pep Squad for 2021-2022 is a top performer among all schools in the U.S. yet again, with their 6th year claiming a National Championship title. After winning Nationals in 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, and 2020, the Varsity Pom team again showed up at the top of their game and beat the competition to become the 2022 National Champions at the National High School Cheerleading Championship (NHSCC).

Orlando, Florida’s Walt Disney World Resort hosted almost 950 teams and a total of 20,000 athletes. The sheer number of competitors in this prestigious competition meant that there were a number of other talented teams from around the country, but Tesoro’s talent proved superior.

This year’s team was led by Head Coach Gabby Breese and Assistant Coach Dalani Allen. Both coaches are Tesoro alumni and were captains during their time on the Varsity Song team. Also, Coach Breese and Allen both were 4-year varsity members, so they know the best ways to push the Tesoro squad to the top of the pack. Their leadership and commitment to the Tesoro Cheer and Song program make a huge impact on the team’s performance, and the positive results of their hard work is evident in the success of the program.

The 15 members of Varsity Song this year were Mia Andreski, Madi Beerer, Paige Berry, Sarah Caballero, Reagan Carey, Caroline Cutler, Ava Diaz, Korinne Harmon, Emma Hernandez, Zoe Hickman, Brielle Inocencio, Abby Kocourek, Hailey Limer, Lauren Rasmussen, and Keah Smith.

Both Varsity and Junior Varsity went through major challenges leading up to nationals, but their effort and enthusiasm paid off. Tesoro Song and Cheer will miss their graduating senior class of 2022, but the squad has a lot of star power in these next couple of years from the classes of 2023 and 2024. Overall, this season was a huge success for all levels for Tesoro, yet there is still much to achieve in the future.
