Tesoro Lady Titans Basketball's Season Comes to an End

Updated: Mar 27, 2022

Tesoro Girls Varsity Basketball had an amazing season with an outstanding record of five wins and three losses. This record helped the team tie for second place in the South Coast League and allowed them to compete in the CIF Division 2AA Southern Section Championships. They were also ranked 17 in their division and finished in the top 100 in the Southern Section.

Lindsey Fukushima, one of the team’s star players, scored 28 points over Corona del Mar, and broke the program’s three point record. Our Lady Titans also won against our rivals, the San Juan Hills Stallions, by a score of 36-34.

On January 18, our Titans extended their winning streak to six games with a win over the San Clemente Tritons. They kept this going for a nine-game winning streak, until being upset at Tesoro by San Juan on January 29. After San Juan, they fell to Aliso Niguel and San Clemente in close nail-biters of 71-75 and 58-60. Coaches Jim Arneson and Brandon Lutz must be very proud of their team given the perseverance players showed all season long.

Our Lady Titans put up 1,497 points and allowed only 1,416 throughout their 28 game season. This team was unstoppable scoring roughly 55.6 points per game, including the beginning of the season tournament. These incredible performances were led by Senior Guard Lindsey Fukushima, Junior Guard Lara Prasad, Junior Forward Celine Castaneda, Junior Forward Avery Steinhardt, and Junior Wing Sarah Bonsangue. A bright future is ahead for all of these ladies; we know they will do great things both on and off the court.

Overall, even though they fell to Sage Hill in the first round of CIF, this young team will carry the confidence of a successful season into next year. With an outstanding year in the books, the future is promising for our girls’ basketball program. Go Titans!
