Tesoro Girls Tennis Wins Back-to-Back CIF Titles

Tesoro’s Girls Varsity Tennis Team this year was phenomenal. The team had high expectations due to their California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) championship win last year, and they delivered once again. Tesoro is now back-to-back Division I CIF champions in Girls Varsity Tennis, dominating their opponents. Some key players that led the way were Karah Li, Aditi Patel, Celia Zhen and Gia Sanchirico.

After a three and a half month stretch of playing matches, Tesoro Girls Varsity Tennis made it to the CIF-Southern Section (SS) playoffs as an unseeded team, ranked only seventh. It was a grind for them to make it, but when they finally got to the big stage, they showed up. On November 2, the Titans won their first match of the playoffs 13-5 over South Torrance. After that win, the Titans took on JSerra, University, and Harvard-Westlake, with all those matches ending in 10-8 wins.

For the championship game, team leaders Karah Li and Aditi Patel played pivotal roles as they clinched the final two singles sets resulting in a score of 10-8. The Titans defeated Los Osos, the number one seed, to win the Division I CIF-SS girls tennis finals at The Claremont Club on Friday, November 11, 2022. Following their run of rare 10-8 finishes, Coach Mooney and Coach Harnett joked about getting tattoos, 8 for Mooney and 10 for Harnett.

Gia Sanchirico and Celia Zhen and Morgan Arnott and Loelia Jacquemart each performed in the doubles matchups, all playing key parts in the team’s CIF win.

Harnett and Mooney are proud of their team – both for another CIF win and all their hard work paying off.

“Morgan Arnott made the difference,” Mooney continues. “She came back from a broken foot and helped lead us to victory in the last five matches.”

Overall, our Titans worked harder as the season went on and never gave up on bringing some hardware back to Tesoro. They look forward to seeing what they can do next year, possibly even going back-to-back-to-back.

Great Job Titans!
