Varsity Head Coach Steven Garrett and Varsity Assistant Coach Josh Parks are leading an outstanding season this year for Tesoro’s Boys Basketball. Tesoro’s coach of their first-ever basketball team back in 2001, Coach Garrett this season leads the team to an impressive 22-5 record. Winning the first 11 games of the season, the team set a new program record for the longest win streak.
Led by captains Blake Manning and Carson Brown, the Titans are confident in their play and skill. The starting five include: sharp-shooting point guard Blake Manning, leading scorer Carson Brown at shooting guard, outstanding rebounder Nathan Draper at small forward, key defensive player Kyle Gleason at power forward, and Jake Bennett as a powerful force at center. The team’s success is reinforced with their consistent and deep bench - Isaiah Viajar, Todd Nelson, Mathew Hanley, Michael Missik, Kaumana Carreira, and Owen Burnside.
The Titans compete in the South Coast League, which includes the Trabuco Mustangs, Mission Viejo Diablos, Capistrano Valley Cougars, and San Clemente Tritons. With a 7-1 league record, the Titans can outperform some of the best competition in California.
Our Titans clinched a 2022 league title. Going into the final league game Tuesday, February 1, the Titans were already League Champions. In addition to being the last league game, the Aliso Niguel finale was Senior Night for the one senior on the team, Isaiah Viajar. Being the only senior has its benefits, as the game was dubbed “Isaiah Night” by his teammates.
With such a successful season, CIF is right around the corner. Not only have they made CIF, but the Titans have a shot at winning it all.
With their perfect mix of offensive and defensive power, it isn’t a surprise Tesoro Basketball continues to dominate this season. Exciting games and intense wins brought Titan students into the gym every Wednesday and Friday to cheer on our boys. Led by an incredible coaching staff and powered by a hardworking group of players, this team is remarkable. Watch for an incredible post season.
