Tesoro Basketball: Rocky Starts But Still Time

Both Boys and Girls Basketball have now started league play. The boys have fallen to Capo Valley and San Clemente in two close games, and the girls have lost to both San Juan Hills and Trabuco Hills.

In preseason, Boys Basketball played a handful of close matches, beating Portola High School 69-53 and falling to Dana Hills in overtime 59-52. Their season thus far has been filled with many more not close matches, including an impressive 68-38 victory over Millikan and a disappointing 71-36 loss to Edison. As they continue to prepare for the league season, the Tesoro boys strive to have yet another successful season following their 2022-2023 campaign that ended with a South Coast League Championship (7-1 in league and 31-5 overall). Last year’s team emerged as CIF Southern Section Champions after a 54-35 victory over Orange Lutheran. With much of last year's team in college including all five starters, the 2023-2024 boys have big shoes to fill. The boys can expect many tough matchups but will work off their early strong performances in league play despite the final results.

Tesoro Girls Basketball had two strong victories thus far in preseason, beating Mission Viejo 53-31 as well as Ocean View 57-38. Last season, the Lady Titans went 3-5 in league, placing 4th overall in South Coast and winning an impressive 17 games overall. They have tough opponents in their league this year but look to build from a tight four point loss to Trabuco Hills.

The girls’ coach, Coach Reyes said, “I’m excited to see our development as our style of play and commitment to teamwork progresses.”

Both teams are off to slow starts but are working towards improvements in league play. Both team’s schedules can be found at www.maxpreps.com.
