Lady Titans Soccer Continues their Bounce-back Season

An outstanding year for the soccer program, Tesoro’s girls soccer teams kicked the competition out of the park. Beginning with their preseason games in December, all levels worked hard for a successful season.

Tesoro Girls Varsity Soccer showed tremendous growth and perseverance over last year’s results. After only winning one game throughout the 2020-2021 season, the girls left that rocky year behind to place third in the South Coast League and secure a place in the Division 2 Southern Section CIF playoffs. With a record of 3-2-3, our lady Titans showed their Tesoro strength in dominating amongst all Division 1 teams.

During the season, the girls crushed the Trabuco Hills Mustangs 3-0 and 3-1, but it was their 1-0 away game win against the Aliso Niguel Wolverines during their Senior Night that was their greatest triumph. Add to that an outstanding performance during their away game versus the San Clemente Tritons, our ladies earned well-deserved recognition from The Orange County Register.

Leading this team through the wins and the losses are five incredibly dedicated captains: Rainie Clark, Lauren Fuller, Katy Flores, Makenna Matthews, and Amanda Jacobs. Their last year in the program, these captains contribute their hard work and time to lead this program every season.

A crucial part of this offense, senior Britton Kerby is stat leader with six goals and two assists; she committed to San Francisco State University to continue her soccer career. Offensively, Natalie Pina, Kylie Kerrigan, Ellie Peterson, and Lauren Fuller are outstanding. Controlling the center of the field, midfielders Katy Flores and Jaclyn Degidio are a consistent solid presence all season long.

Holding up the back line, senior center defender Rainie Clark prevented countless goals and is committed to California Baptist University to continue her soccer career. A strong backline, juniors Aliya Hatch, Emily Miner, and Shay Clark work effortlessly together with Rainie Clark to keep the ball out of their own net. Lastly, senior Allie Lundgren, the only goalkeeper on Varsity, won the team countless games with her effortless skill and composure. With only five goals against her, Lundgren is having a phenomenal season.

Head Coach George Deverrick and Assistant Coach Jason Kirkwood are the strong backbone to this team. Planning team pasta parties and futsal tournaments, these coaches deserve recognition for this team’s success.

This is Head Coach Deverrick’s tenth and last year in the program. He is originally from London, England but decided to bring his enthusiasm for soccer to the United States to share with Tesoro High School. He brings life and spirit to the team with his endless jokes and instructions from the sideline.

Assistant Coach Kirkwood is committed to this program and will be taking over the coming year. Always pushing these girls to play like true Titans, Coach Kirkwood teaches and analyzes the play of opponents and the team to give phenomenal halftime talks.

With an exceptional season in the books, we cannot wait to see our Lady Titans take on CIF playoffs. As the second seed in Division 2, we have high hopes that these girls will make it far. To support these girls, check https://cifss.org/ to see their schedule and bracket. Good luck Lady Titans!
