Girls Flag Football Closes Inaugural Season With a Win

In their inaugural season, the Varsity Girls Flag Football team finished with an impressive 11-3 league record, earning second place, and the JV girls earned an outstanding 12-0 record in league, taking home the league title.

Coached by Rick Brail, both the Varsity and JV teams made outstanding efforts all throughout league and preseason, putting time both on and off the field to achieve their records.

To kick off the season, the Varsity girls competed in a tough scrimmage on Aug 23 to take the win in the end. In an after game interview, Varsity player of the game, Katherine Le, foreshadowed the many wins to come, claiming this win would be the “first of many.” With positive momentum heading into season, the Varsity girls went on to beat the majority of their opponents including El Toro, Capo Valley, Mission Viejo, Trabuco Hills, Dana Hills, and lastly San Juan Hills for their final season match.

In the first nail-biter against rivals San Juan Hills, Varsity player of the game Shayne Welkowsky reflected on the growth of the defense throughout the season as they were able to get the “game-winning flag pull” to hold onto the incredible victory and six game winning streak.

During their closing game on Oct 25, both JV and Varsity celebrated Senior Night with two outstanding wins against their rivals as Varsity won 12-7 and JV won 18-0 to conclude the flag football season.

With a successful first season, Coach Brail’s Girls Flag Football have big goals for next season.
