In the 2021-2022 school year, Tesoro High School went back to its traditional schedule for sports. In this upcoming Winter season, our Titans are looking forward to seeing our athletes showcase true Tesoro strength. From November to March, Boys and Girls Basketball, Girls and Boys Soccer, Wrestling, Girls Lacrosse, and Girls Water Polo will be competing.
Tesoro’s Boys Varsity Basketball shows promise this year as they set a new Tesoro basketball record of a 10 game winning streak. Head Coach Steve Garrett and Assistant Coaches Tyler Mirza and Joshua Parks push an amazing group of 11 who excel as a team, handle pressure, and can adapt to different environments. The basketball program prepares the team through several preseason tournaments until their official season journey begins on January 5th. For the girls program, they are working to play to their full potential. Last season, they won a league championship title and are hoping to repeat again this year. They recently hosted the Tesoro High School Junior Varsity (JV) Holiday tournament here at Tesoro, where the JV team placed third out of 12 teams.
Our Soccer Titans hit the pitch this winter with both the boys and girls programs officially beginning their seasons during the first week of January. The teams are currently battling in preseason games to prepare for quality matches in the regular season. The Lady Titans have displayed some early success as the varsity, junior varsity, and freshman/sophomore teams all won against Beckman High School in their first preseason game. As the reigning league champions, the Tesoro Boys soccer team also looks to keep their triumphant momentum going this upcoming season. The athletes of the Tesoro soccer teams are dedicated to preparing for their seasons with optimal performance as they represent their school. There is so much in store for these teams in the upcoming season, and they cannot wait to have Tesoro’s support as they take the field this winter.
Our Tesoro Wrestling Team has had a tremendous start that promises another great year. Last year, our Wrestling Titans won a league championship for the first time since 2006. Captained by wrestlers Billy Dean and Michael McGettigan, we hope that they can lead the team to a repeat of last year. So far our Titan wrestlers have come out very strong with a second place finish in the Trabuco 10-Way as well as a first place finish at the Corona Del Mar, Battle by the Bay Tournament. Up next, we can look forward to our Titans facing Capo Valley, Mission Viejo, and Dana Hills in dual meets through January.
Our Girls Water Polo team is cooling off in our pool during the winter. A truly difficult sport, the girls will take on this season with cold winter waters and the prospect of another successful season. Coach Jessy Cardey and Coach Sarah Sanchez lead the team with trying practices and team bonding. One of the closest teams on campus, the girls are a family who always help and support one another. We and these girls are excited for a full season and cannot wait until league play starts.
